ABOUT ME

About me

Jermo Grundström is a Helsinki-based theatre director with over 15 years of experience working across multiple theatres. He holds an MA in Theatre Directing from the University of Essex (East 15 Acting School) and works both as director and acting teacher.

I originally trained and worked as a performer for over a decade across the Nordic countries, in productions ranging from drama to dance theatre and musical theatre. That experience continues to shape how I work today—my process is grounded in the actor’s craft, presence, and the dynamics between performers on stage.

As a director, I’ve worked across a wide range of styles, from intimate drama to musical theatre. My credits include RENT by Jonathan Larson, The Stronger by August Strindberg, Venus in Fur by David Ives, and The Woman in Black by Stephen Mallatratt.

Alongside my directing work, I teach acting at Tampere University and lead workshops for actors and theatre-makers.

I see theatre-making as a conversation. My work begins in dialogue—with actors, with the team, and with the material. I’m interested in exploring different theatrical languages and in building performances where something real can happen between the stage and the audience.
